Enhancing Tourist Convenience
Recognizing the increasing number of solo travelers and small groups, the city plans to improve payment options for essential services like taxi-hailing and food delivery apps, which currently pose challenges for international visitors due to identification requirements.
Cultural Immersion Programs
Seoul will introduce programs offering hands-on Korean cultural experiences across the city. Culinary tourism is set to become a staple, with annual food events and markets at key landmarks showcasing Korean cuisine.
Innovative Landmarks
The city has announced plans to develop new attractions to draw tourists. Nodeulseom, an artificial island on the Han River, is slated to become a public art landmark. Additionally, Seoul plans to construct the world’s tallest spokeless Ferris wheel by 2027.
Accommodation Expansion
To meet the anticipated rise in tourist numbers, Seoul will repurpose unused facilities, such as closed schools, university dorms during vacations, and vacant commercial buildings, to provide additional accommodations. In the long term, the city intends to expand existing lodging facilities and introduce new ones to cater to diverse visitor needs.
Mayor Oh Se-hoon emphasized the city's commitment to transforming Seoul into a vibrant destination, stating, "For those visiting the city, it should be a special, fun place. We aim to change even the ordinary parts of the city around to develop 'Playable Seoul.'"
These initiatives reflect Seoul's dedication to enhancing its appeal as a global tourist destination, offering enriched experiences and improved convenience for international visitors.
